Amina Ross

Amina Ross is an artist and educator. Ross makes videos, sculptures, sounds, and situations that consider feeling, body-knowledge, and intimacy as technologies of survival. Ross's work can be described as world-building. Within speculative fiction and gameplay, world-building describes the components that come together to create a setting that a reader, or player may immerse themself within.

The worlds Ross co-creates question how systems of power condition reality and how black queer femmes navigate, resist, reimagine, and refigure these systems in order to survive. Ross's work challenges the rigidity (and impossibility) of representation as liberatory praxis. Ross is asking: how do we get free? And positing that perhaps freedom is pursued by asking questions and entering into not-knowing, together.
