Su Ji Kim’s practice explores the fluid space between abstraction and figuration, where reality and fiction overlap. Working primarily in oil, she utilizes an intuitive process of layering to build compositions drawn from personal and collective archives. Images are built up only to be intentionally obscured, mirroring the way memory fragments, shifts, and fades over time. The resulting paintings offer a contemplative space where forms emerge and recede, leaving behind only traces of their origin.
