Claire (Won Jeong) Chey (b. 1997) is a Korean artist currently based in New Haven.
Using oil paint, Chey engages with the extremities of physical, psychological, and spiritual experiences—birth and death, violence and pleasure, repulsion and attachment. Through the long strokes of transparent washes and thickly caked layers, she uses paint to capture forces and mark areas of pressure. She aims to confront and reconcile with the most destructive/destructed parts of ourselves.
