Ana Cláudia Almeida (b. 1993, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) is an artist who is interested in exploring materialities through movement and mark-making. Her work incorporates paper, plastic, oil pastels, and paint spanning across multiple mediums such as painting, video, and sculpture. Almeida’s explorations seek to resist and disrupt the dominant role functionality plays in how objects are understood by engaging the dynamic tension between interior and exterior, individual and environment. This position is articulated by conceptually examining the relationship between nature and human-built spaces, such as urban landscapes and social systems of religion, gender, and sexuality.
