Sunnie Liu investigates racial capitalism, colonialism, and gender and sexuality, and diasporic narratives through sculpture, installation, performance, and video art. Since Sunnie was born in southern China but grew up in Houston, Texas, being a migrant, Chinese / Asian American, and Houstonian / Texan / Southern is integral to their work. Outside of the studio, Sunnie's community organizing, historian background, and lived experience as the child of Chinatown workers continue to inform their practice.
