Izquierdo complicates and undoes the standardization that has been codified into our built environments. The artist does not simply call our attention to objects that are curiously “out of place,” but rather, through her subversion of their intended use, she opens up more provocative possibilities. In her estimation, the infrastructures we encounter are mechanisms of control, but they are not completely rigid. In fact, they are malleable, adaptable, and can be reconfigured to fit our own needs.
